Oh bej! always takes place for a three day period around the 7th of December, when Milan also celebrates its beloved Patron Saint, St. Ambrogio. Legend has it the name (from the dialect Oh belli! Oh belli! – Oh lovely! Oh lovely!) originates from the exclamations of joy the children shouted when seeing gifts sent over by Pope Pius IV.
